Sancarloseño, One of the Ten Outstanding Filipinos
San Carlos City, Negros Occidental was once again put in the limelight as one of its citizens in the person of Master Sergeant Ramil Alcoseba Caporas became a recipient of the 2019 Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipino Award.
Caporas who is a member of the Philippine army for 21 years was recognized for his excellence in serving the public as a team supervisor and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) technician of the EOD Battalion during the five-month Marawi siege which resulted in the recovery and proper disposal of around 1,000 improvised explosive devices.
Caporas received a cash incentive of one million pesos, a gold medallion and a trophy from Metrobank Foundation during the conferment ceremony at Metrobank Plaza, Makati, Metro Manila last Sept. 4, 2019.
He recounted that because of his desire for his team to survive during the Marawi crisis, he was able to create a scheme called “Bintana” using raw materials available in the area to create an explosive to target the assaulting troops during a high-risk operation.
“Since bata pako, manindog jud ako balahibo basta maka dungog ko sa atong national anthem ug makita nako atong flag. Katong nakita nako ang mga army nga mag salute, didtu ko naka ingon nga gusto gid ko mag sundalo,” Caporas said. (Ever since I was a kid, I get goose bumps every time I hear our national anthem and see our flag. There was one time, I saw the army exchanging salutes and I said to myself that I wanted to become one.)
Caporas was born and raised in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental and continued his training in Capiz. Although far from San Carlos City now, he made sure that he gets to visit his relatives in Fatima Village every now and then because he considers San Carlos City his home.
The city government of San Carlos being grateful for his contribution to the country has made a resolution honoring Caporas as a valuable legacy to the people of San Carlos which will be presented to him during the Recognition Night of the 2019 Negosyo Week on October 30, 2019.
Yesterday, while in the city, he made a courtesy visit to the San Carlos City hall with his family. Acting City Administrator Atty. Ma. Chat D. Cordero and Secretary to the Sannguniang Panlungsod Ma. Cecilia Suzette Binghay welcomed them in lieu of City Mayor Renato Y. Gustilo who was in Bacolod City for official business.
Caporas expressed his love for country in his service. He encouraged everyone especially the youth to get involve, join the army, depart from illegal doings and dedicate themselves in serving the country.
He is married to Mary Ann Cabrera and became the father of four children – Rhamayzee Milann, Ramil Jr., Rhamziann Mhiel and Rhamzeel Milmarc.
His parents originally live in Hacienda Fortuna, Magbaboy, Brgy. Buluangan in San Carlos City and transferred later on to Hacienda Felomina in Kalingling, Brgy. I.
Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipino Award is the most prestigious career-service award for Filipino exemplars in the line of duty and even beyond, from the moment they started working up to the present time in the academe, military, and police sectors.
